# iRobot after the bankruptcy: is a Roomba still a safe buy?

## What happened to iRobot

On 14 December 2025, iRobot filed for Chapter 11 in Delaware. That is not a bankruptcy in which a company closes, but a US procedure in which it keeps trading while its debts are restructured. The plan was agreed in advance with Picea, the Chinese company that manufactured Roombas and had lent iRobot money.

On 23 January 2026, Picea took over all of iRobot’s shares, [iRobot announced](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/irobot-completes-court-supervised-transaction-with-picea-enabling-the-next-chapter-of-growth-302669011.html), which ended the procedure. iRobot stays a US company, with its headquarters in Bedford, Massachusetts. The data of its US customers sits in a separate company, iRobot Safe, with an independent board of US citizens.

## What it means if you own a Roomba

- **The app keeps working.** iRobot says there are [no planned changes](https://www.irobot.com/en_US/here-to-stay-company-update.html) to the app or to data security.
- **Customer service and updates continue.** Support stays in place, and models that get software updates keep getting them.
- **Warranties are honoured.** Chief executive Gary Cohen told [TechRadar](https://www.techradar.com/home/robot-vacuums/its-business-as-usual-the-app-is-working-warranties-will-be-honored-irobot-ceo-reassures-roomba-owners-following-takeover) it is business as usual: the app works and warranties will be honoured.
- **Parts and accessories** stay on sale, and so do the robots themselves.

## Should you buy a Roomba now?

The takeover is no reason to hesitate. The tests are: 4 of the 20 iRobot models on sale today are in our consensus of 5 independent test sources, and the best-placed of them, the iRobot Roomba Combo 10 Max, is number 57 of 66.
