What to expect from the Shark Navigator Self-Empty
The Shark Navigator Self-Empty is the entry to Shark's self-emptying robots: it maps the home with what Shark calls SmartPath navigation, a spot lidar sensor, cleans in rows, and detects and avoids objects in its path. After each clean it empties itself into a bagless base that holds up to 60 days of debris, so there are no bags to buy, and its self-cleaning brushroll is built not to tangle with hair.
On paper it is the simplest way into Shark's range. Shark claims up to 50 percent more suction than a competing robot but, as for all its robots, publishes no figure in pascals. The robot's own bin holds 190 milliliters, so it leans on emptying into the base after every run. The Matrix Self-Empty above it adds a 360-degree lidar and Shark's Matrix Clean grid pattern.
None of our test sources has measured it, so how well it vacuums, how it copes with pet hair and how reliably it avoids obstacles is still unknown. Our specifications list no run time or suction figure. Anyone who would rather buy on test results can look at the Roborock Q5 Pro+, a tested lidar robot with a self-emptying dock.
