What testers say about the iRobot Roomba s9+
The iRobot Roomba s9+ is a premium vacuum-only Roomba from iRobot's high-end S series: two wide rubber brushrolls built not to tangle with pet hair, much more power than the average Roomba, a camera-based system (V-SLAM) that maps the home, and a HEPA filter. Its Clean Base empties the bin into an enclosed bag that holds up to 60 days of debris, and it works with Alexa and Google Assistant.
Carpet is its strength. For a long time the s9+ held the best score Vacuum Wars had ever seen in its carpet deep-clean test, thanks to iRobot's two-brushroll design and that extra power. It mapped the home and cleaned room by room with close to full coverage, was excellent with short pet hair and resisted tangles from long human hair better than the Roborock S7+ it was compared with, and its app stores up to ten maps, with keep-out zones and cleaning by room. RTINGS rates it as very well built, superb with pet hair on bare floors and quite good on carpet, with outstanding battery life for fairly large homes.
The limits: its brushes sit so close to the floor that it struggles a little with larger debris, and Vacuum Wars finds the no-go lines of a lidar robot more precise than those drawn on its camera map. RTINGS counts several parts that need regular cleaning or replacing, and notes that it has no obstacle recognition to spot pet waste in real time. It does not mop. For a home with a lot of carpet it is still one of the strongest vacuum-only Roombas, and with pets the j7+, with its camera obstacle recognition, is the safer pick.
