What testers say about the Roborock Q7 M5
The Roborock Q7 M5 is a simple vacuum-and-mop robot with lidar navigation, a drag mop you clip on yourself and a compact charging dock without emptying; the Q7 M5+ is the same robot with a self-emptying station. TechRadar names it the best budget robot, RTINGS the best cheap one, Wirecutter puts the Plus version first, and Vacuum Wars bought it to see whether the bargain delivers.
TechRadar praises the reliable performance and the 10,000 Pa of suction you expect from pricier robots: debris large and small and pet hair were picked up well, the map was accurate and the robot covered the whole floor systematically. Wirecutter calls the Plus one of the most thorough cleaners and best navigators it tested, remembering maps of several floors, avoiding obstacles better than the other robots tested and being among the quietest. The dock fits a small home and the robot is regularly on offer.
The limits come with the price: the side brush does not extend, so edges stay less clean, and the mop cannot lift on carpet, so you take it off for a vacuum run. The mop is wet too: Vacuum Wars measured strong stain removal but twice the average amount of water left on the floor, which streaks. Long hair is its weak spot. Roborock fits a comb that is meant to keep it off the brush, yet TechRadar found long hair wound around the roller, and in Vacuum Wars' tangle test 43 percent of the long hair stayed around the brush, against 38 percent for the average robot. Pet hair it handles better: RTINGS names it its best budget robot for pet hair, since it clears most of it from carpet in one pass, and Vacuum Wars measured 79 percent, just under the 81 percent average. With pets you do empty the bin yourself, since the dock only charges it, and RTINGS warns that it does not reliably steer around pet mess. For a cheap, reliable vacuum in a smaller home with little carpet it fits, and anyone who wants to mop should look further.
