What testers say about the Dreame Matrix10 Ultra

The Dreame Matrix10 Ultra is Dreame's most elaborate model: a station that swaps automatically between three mop pads, a soft absorbent one for the bathroom, one with nylon bristles for scrubbing and a standard pad, with three separate compartments of solution for wood, general use and pet odor. The robot itself has retractable legs, a retractable lidar, an extending side brush and mop, and a station that washes in boiling-hot water and dries with hot air. Vacuum Wars tested it for weeks and compared it with the far cheaper L50 Ultra.

Pad swapping worked reliably in practice, bar one error message that vanished after a restart. Bench suction was above average and well above the L50 Ultra, nothing was wrapped around the split main brush after the long-hair test and pressed-in pet hair was picked up at an above-average rate. Debris of every kind came off hard floors and carpet, and the complete station takes almost all maintenance off your hands.

The criticism is mainly the price: nearly every feature is also on the L50 Ultra, which Vacuum Wars names the best robot under a thousand dollars, and the Matrix10 costs a lot more for the swapping station alone. The testers also reserve judgment on the durability of all those moving parts, as user ratings were still scarce. If you want a different pad and solution per room without lifting a finger, this is unique; if you do not, buy the L50 Ultra.

What the tests like and dislike about the Dreame Matrix10 Ultra

Pros

  • Scrubs off dried stains better than most, beating even some roller mops Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Dock swapped between its mop pad types reliably across many runs Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Brushes kept long hair from tangling completely Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Mapped a whole open-plan home correctly on the first run and named most rooms TechRadar ↗
  • Vacuums hard floors on a par with the top robots around TechRadar ↗
  • One of the quietest robots in use, with a low-pitched dock when emptying TechRadar ↗

Cons

  • Cleans slower than average and occasionally got stuck in odd places Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Covers a below average area on one charge Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Poor at clearing debris from crevices, and only fair on deep carpet dirt Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Left more large debris on a rug than expected for its power TechRadar ↗
  • The huge dock takes up as much space as a compact fridge TechRadar ↗
  • App settings and routines take a long time to figure out TechRadar ↗

Where the testers disagree

  • The station: Vacuum Wars: Dock swapped between its mop pad types reliably across many runs against TechRadar: The huge dock takes up as much space as a compact fridge
  • Navigation: TechRadar: Mapped a whole open-plan home correctly on the first run and named most rooms against Vacuum Wars: Cleans slower than average and occasionally got stuck in odd places
  • Pickup: TechRadar: Vacuums hard floors on a par with the top robots around against Vacuum Wars: Poor at clearing debris from crevices, and only fair on deep carpet dirt

From the published dimensions. The robot passes under furniture with 3.6 in of clearance or more. The dock needs a spot 16.4 in wide and 18 in deep.

Suction and brushes 6 facts
Suction power

Suction in pascal, as the maker measures it. More pascal helps on carpet, but it says little about how well the robot picks grit off a hard floor.

30,000 Pa
Anti-tangle brush

A brush that guides hair to the side instead of letting it wind around the shaft. It saves the cutting work in homes with long hair or pets.

yes
Extending side brush

The side brush swings out in a corner or along a baseboard, so the dust there is swept in too.

yes
Carpet detection

The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.

detects carpet
Suitable for pet hair

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.

yes
Dirt detection

A sensor notices where more dirt lies, at the doormat for example, and the robot cleans that patch longer or a second time.

yes
Mopping 5 facts
Mop type

How the mop is built: flat pads, two spinning discs or a roller. Discs press harder on dried-on dirt, a roller rinses itself while it works.

spinning pads
Mop lift on carpet

How far the robot lifts the mop when it drives onto a carpet. From about 0.4 in (10 mm) a medium pile stays dry.

0.4 in (10.5 mm)
Mop extends to the edges

The pad slides out along a wall or a baseboard, so the last few inches are mopped as well.

yes
Automatic mop detach

The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet.

yes
Mop refreshed while mopping

The robot returns to the dock during a run to rinse the mop, instead of pushing dirty water around.

no
Dock 13 facts
Empties the dust bin

The dock empties the robot’s dust bin, usually after every run. You only empty the dock’s bag or bin.

yes
Bagless

The dock collects dust in a bin instead of a disposable bag. No bags to buy, but you empty it yourself.

no
Dust bag capacity

How much the dust bag in the dock holds.

3.2 l
Dust bag lasts

How long the maker says a dust bag lasts with daily use. With pets or a lot of carpet it is shorter. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

up to 100 days
Washes the mop

The dock washes the mop for you, so you do not rinse it by hand.

yes
Wash temperature

How hot the dock washes the mop. Above 140 °F (60 °C) grease comes off, which is what keeps a mop from smelling.

212 °F (100 °C)
Dries the mop

The dock dries the mop afterwards, so it does not sit there wet and start to smell.

yes
Hot-air drying

Drying is done with warm air instead of cold. It is faster and it helps against smell.

yes
Dispenses detergent

The dock mixes detergent into the water itself, from its own bottle.

yes
Plumbing hookup

The dock can be connected to the tap and the drain, so you never fill or empty a tank. It does need a connection nearby.

yes
Clean water tank

The clean water tank in the dock, which wets the mop.

5.5 l
Dirty water tank

The tank that catches the dirty water from the mop. You empty this one yourself.

4 l
Dock size (w × d × h)

The width, depth and height of the dock. Measure the spot you have in mind, and leave room for the lid and for the robot driving in.

16.4 × 18 × 23.2 in (41.6 × 45.7 × 59 cm)
Navigation and obstacles 6 facts
Navigation

How the robot maps your home and follows that map. Lidar measures with a laser and works in the dark, a camera looks along and recognizes more.

retractable LiDAR
Obstacle avoidance

How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.

AI camera
Climbs thresholds up to

The highest threshold the robot takes, as the maker states it. Measure your own: the step into a bathroom or onto a balcony is often higher.

1.7 in (42 mm)
Double threshold (two steps together)

Two steps close together, such as a threshold with a sliding-door track behind it: their combined height, as the maker measures it. Each brand measures with a different gap between the steps, so compare this figure across brands with care. For a single step, the threshold above applies.

3.1 in (80 mm), measured with 4.7 in (12 cm) between the steps
Climbing system for high thresholds

An extending leg or wheel that carries the robot over a high threshold. Without one it usually stops at about 0.8 in (2 cm). On this model: derived from the threshold height the maker states.

yes
Camera on board

Whether the robot has a camera, and what for: to recognize obstacles, or also to show you a live picture of your home in the app.

obstacle camera
Robot 5 facts
Robot height

How tall the robot is. It decides whether it fits under your sofa, bed or cabinet.

3.5 in (8.9 cm)
Robot diameter

How wide the robot is. Narrower gets between chair legs more easily, wider usually means a bigger dust bin.

13.8 in (35.1 cm)
Robot weight

What the robot weighs. It counts most if you carry it up a staircase every day.

10.4 lb (4.7 kg)
Dust bin in the robot

How much dust the robot holds before you empty it. It matters less with a self-emptying dock, which empties the bin after every run.

310 ml
Noise

The noise in decibels, in the setting its source names: makers mostly give the standard setting, stores often the highest. 65 dB is like a vacuum at half power, 55 dB like a conversation.

70 dB
Battery 3 facts
Battery capacity

The capacity of the battery. It hints at the runtime, but how much the robot draws counts just as much.

6,400 mAh
Runtime per charge

How long the robot cleans on one charge, at its quietest setting. After that it recharges and carries on where it stopped.

260 min
Charging time

How long an empty battery takes to charge fully in the dock.

4.5 h
Smart features and warranty 3 facts
Matter

Matter is the standard that lets devices from different makers work together. With it you can run the robot outside the maker’s own app. On this model: the maker names this feature nowhere on the product page, so we take it as no.

no
Voice assistants

Which voice assistants the robot works with, such as Google Assistant or Alexa. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
