What to expect from the Narwal Freo 20 Edge

The Narwal Freo 20 Edge is the edge-cleaning sibling of the Freo 20: its FlowWash track mop, flushed with fresh water and scraped clean while it mops, sticks out beside the body to reach along baseboards and around chair legs, and a side brush extends automatically into corners. Beyond that, 31,000 Pa of suction, DualFlow brushes against hair wrap with a side brush that reverses to shed wound-up hair, a mop that lifts 0.5 inches on carpet, and obstacle recognition with dual structured light and a dToF sensor at the back. The station empties the bin into a 2.5-liter bag for up to 120 days, washes the mop, dries it with 113 °F air and cleans its own pipes and dirty-water tank.

The trade-off against the Freo 20 is in the sensors: the Edge recognizes obstacles with structured light rather than cameras, and Narwal quotes up to 150 recognized objects for it against more than 300 for the Freo 20. Our specifications list a wash temperature only for the Freo 20. Voice control works with Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant.

None of our test sources has measured it. At 3.7 inches the robot is of average height, and our specifications list no battery, run time or threshold height. Anyone who cares most about edges and corners gets the extending brush and the mop that sticks out here, anyone who wants camera-based obstacle recognition the Freo 20.
