Suction in pascal, as the maker measures it. More pascal helps on carpet, but it says little about how well the robot picks grit off a hard floor.

At the same price, a shop in your own country comes first, then a shop selling its own stock before a marketplace seller, then the shorter delivery time, then free returns and the longer return window. Commission never counts.

What testers say about the Dreame L40 Ultra AE
For anyone who wants a complete station and accepts the lowest spot in the list, it is often one of Dreame's cheaper all-in-one robots.
The Dreame L40 Ultra AE, sold in the United States as the L40s Ultra AE, is an all-in-one robot with two spinning mop pads of which one extends, an anti-tangle main brush and obstacle recognition with a camera and 3D structured light. The station empties the bin into a 3.2-litre bag good for about a hundred days, washes the pads in 75-degree water, dries them with hot air, cleans its washboard and doses cleaning solution; a water-line kit is sold separately. Vacuum Wars places it twentieth and last in its top 20.
What the testers highlight is the equipment for homes with pets: the robot recognises food bowls and litter boxes and can avoid them or clean around them, and the app offers live video with two-way audio. The 5,200 mAh battery, the 395 ml bin and the 4.5 and 4-litre water tanks are generous for this class, and the pads lift on carpet.
The limitations: the side brush does not extend, the pads are not detached automatically for a vacuum-only run, thresholds stop at two centimetres and there is no climbing system. According to Vacuum Wars the obstacle recognition knows around 120 kinds of objects, fewer than the newer models.

Carpet detection
When it matters
Rugs and carpets, where the robot should raise its suction.
Mopping in a home with rugs, which have to stay dry.
The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.

When it matters
Dogs and cats that shed.
Long-haired pets, whose hair wraps around a brush.
When it matters less

When it matters
Kitchens and hallways where dirt gathers along the kickboard.
Homes with many corners and table legs.
When it matters less
In open rooms the strip it leaves along the wall is small.
The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

When it matters
Large hard floors, where a mop that is never rinsed spreads dirt around.
Kitchens with sticky spills.
When it matters less
In a small home the mop does not get dirty enough in one run for it to matter.
The robot returns to the dock during a run to rinse the mop, instead of pushing dirty water around. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
