How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.
When it matters
Cables, socks and toys left on the floor.
Pets, whose accidents a robot should steer around.
In a home that is tidied before each run it matters less.

What to expect from the Ecovacs Deebot X12S OmniCyclone
The Ecovacs Deebot X12S OmniCyclone is Ecovacs' current flagship: 27,000 Pa of suction, the 27-centimetre OZMO Roller 3.0 that presses with 4,000 Pa and turns at 260 rpm, with 32 nozzles that rinse the roller while mopping and, according to Ecovacs, leave 67 percent less water behind, FocusJet that pre-soaks stains with diluted solution, a cover and 15 millimetres of lift on carpet, an extending side brush, TruePass for thresholds up to four centimetres, lidar navigation and AIVI camera-based obstacle recognition. The bagless OmniCyclone station washes in 75-degree water, doses detergent and can be connected to the water line.
The X12 OmniCyclone it builds on has been measured by Vacuum Wars: dried stains above average even without pre-soaking, little water on the floor, pet hair picked up completely, nothing around the brush after the long-hair test and 23 of 24 obstacles avoided.
The criticism of the X12 presumably applies here too: the carpet deep clean was merely average, more was left along skirting boards and in crevices, the onboard bin is small, at 98 millimetres the robot is on the tall side and you empty the cyclone container yourself. None of our test sources has measured the X12S itself. Anyone with mostly hard floors who wants to be done with dust bags finds, on paper, Ecovacs' most complete mopping robot here; anyone with carpet should look at the T90 or X11.
Based on the maker's specifications and our price data; none of our test sources has tested this model.
Ecovacs Deebot X12S OmniCyclone specifications
The numbers that matter first, then every fact by group. As published by the maker or the shop we read it from.
The side brush swings out in a corner or along a kickboard, so the dust there is swept in too. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
yes
Carpet detection
When it matters
Rugs and carpets, where the robot should raise its suction.
Mopping in a home with rugs, which have to stay dry.
The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.
detects carpet
Suitable for pet hair
When it matters
Dogs and cats that shed.
Long-haired pets, whose hair wraps around a brush.
Without pets, ordinary hair and dust need nothing special.

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.
yes
Mopping6 facts
Mop type
When it matters
Homes with a lot of hard floor that you want mopped, not just wiped.
Dried-on dirt in a kitchen, which spinning pads or a roller scrub off better than a dragged cloth.
If you only vacuum, the mop’s build decides nothing.
The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Mop refreshed while mopping
When it matters
Large hard floors, where a mop that is never rinsed spreads dirt around.
Kitchens with sticky spills.
In a small home the mop does not get dirty enough in one run for it to matter.
The robot returns to the dock during a run to rinse the mop, instead of pushing dirty water around. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
yes
Water tank in the robot
When it matters
Large hard floors mopped in one go.
A robot whose dock does not refill it during a run.
With a dock that refills the robot during the run, the tank’s size hardly matters.
The dock empties the robot’s dust bin, usually after every run. You only empty the dock’s bag or bin. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
yes
Bagless
When it matters
Not wanting to buy bags again and again.
Pets, whose hair fills a bag quickly.
With a dust allergy a sealed bag keeps the dust in when you throw it away, so bagless is no gain.
How hot the dock washes the mop. Above 60 °C grease comes off, which is what keeps a mop from smelling. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
75 °C
Dries the mop
When it matters
Mopping often, since a damp mop in the dock starts to smell.
Humid rooms, where a mop dries slowly.
If you take the pads off and wash them yourself, you will not miss it.
The dock can be connected to the tap and the drain, so you never fill or empty a tank. It does need a connection nearby. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
yes
Clean water tank
When it matters
Large hard floors mopped every day.
Being away for days while the robot keeps mopping.
With a dock connected to the tap the tank is filled for you.
How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
An extending leg or wheel that carries the robot over a high threshold. Without one it usually stops at about 2 cm. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Camera on board
When it matters
Privacy, if you would rather not have a camera driving through your home.
Small things on the floor, which a camera sees better than lidar alone.
If the floor is tidied before each run, a camera adds little.

With furniture on high legs or flat on the floor it decides nothing.
The noise in decibels, in the setting its source names: makers mostly give the standard setting, shops often the highest. 65 dB is like a vacuum at half power, 55 dB like a conversation.
Matter is the standard that lets devices from different makers work together. With it you can run the robot outside the maker’s own app. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

Voice assistants
When it matters
Starting the robot by voice while your hands are full.
A home already run with Alexa, Google or Siri.
If you start it from the app or a schedule, you will not miss it.
Whether the robot works with Home Assistant, the home automation software you run yourself. Official means the integration comes with Home Assistant itself, community that volunteers maintain it.
