What to expect from the iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo
The iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo is the middle model of iRobot's new Max line: 30,000 Pa of suction, the self-cleaning PowerSpin mop roller that cleans itself with warm water up to 75 degrees while mopping, twin rubber anti-tangle brushes, camera-based obstacle recognition that also recognises pet waste, lidar navigation and a station that empties the bin into an AllergenLock carbon bag for three months, washes the roller in 75-degree water, dries and doses detergent.
On paper this is the cheapest Roomba with a real mop roller and a station that washes and empties, the type of mop that scored best on dried stains and wet messes in Vacuum Wars' tests of Ecovacs and Eufy models. The heated mop and the anti-tangle brushes are new for the brand.
The caveats: none of our test sources has measured this model, and the previous generation drew criticism from Vacuum Wars and Tom's Guide for a buggy app and mediocre obstacle recognition. At 105 millimetres the robot is tall for low furniture, our specifications list no hot-air drying, no threshold height and no water connection, and the run time is unknown. Anyone wanting a Roomba with a mop roller without the price of the Max 875 has the logical choice here.
Based on the maker's specifications and our price data; none of our test sources has tested this model.

Suction in pascal, as the maker measures it. More pascal helps on carpet, but it says little about how well the robot picks grit off a hard floor. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

Anti-tangle brush
473 of the 493 models we track have this.
When it matters
Long hair and pet hair, which wrap around a bristle brush.
Homes where you would rather not cut hair off the brush.
The side brush swings out in a corner or along a kickboard, so the dust there is swept in too. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Carpet detection
When it matters
Rugs and carpets, where the robot should raise its suction.
Mopping in a home with rugs, which have to stay dry.
The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.

Suitable for pet hair
When it matters
Dogs and cats that shed.
Long-haired pets, whose hair wraps around a brush.
Without pets, ordinary hair and dust need nothing special.

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.
yes
Dirt detection
When it matters
Entrances and kitchens, where dirt gathers in one place.
Pets that leave hair in a favourite spot.
If dirt is spread evenly, a normal pass cleans it just as well.
The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Mop refreshed while mopping
When it matters
Large hard floors, where a mop that is never rinsed spreads dirt around.
Kitchens with sticky spills.
In a small home the mop does not get dirty enough in one run for it to matter.
The dock empties the robot’s dust bin, usually after every run. You only empty the dock’s bag or bin. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
yes
Bagless
When it matters
Not wanting to buy bags again and again.
Pets, whose hair fills a bag quickly.
With a dust allergy a sealed bag keeps the dust in when you throw it away, so bagless is no gain.
The dock collects dust in a bin instead of a disposable bag. No bags to buy, but you empty it yourself. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
The dock dries the mop afterwards, so it does not sit there wet and start to smell. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
yes
Hot-air drying
245 of the 295 models we track have this.
When it matters
Mopping daily, when the mop barely dries before the next run.
A smell from the dock in a warm or humid home.
If you mop only now and then, cold air dries the mop in time.
The dock can be connected to the tap and the drain, so you never fill or empty a tank. It does need a connection nearby. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Dock size (w × d × h)
When it matters
A small hallway or a niche where the dock has to fit.
Placing the dock under a cabinet or a counter.
Along an open wall with room to spare it decides little.
How the robot maps your home and follows that map. Lidar measures with a laser and works in the dark, a camera looks along and recognises more. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

Multi-floor maps

The maker says the robot recognises a pet accident and drives around it, so it does not smear it across the floor. This is the maker’s claim, not a test of ours.

Frequently asked questions about the iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo
1

Yes. The station empties the robot’s dust bin after every run. The 2.5 l dust bag in the station lasts up to 90 days, the maker says.
2
Does the iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo wash and dry its own mop?
Yes. The station washes the mop itself, with water at 75 °C. It then dries the mop with warm air.
3

It works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. Home Assistant has an official integration for this model.
4
How high a threshold can the iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo climb?
Thresholds up to 16 mm, the maker says. Measure your own thresholds: the ones to a bathroom or balcony are often higher.
5
Does the iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo fit under low furniture?
The robot is 10.5 cm tall, so it fits under furniture with at least 11 cm of clearance.
6
