How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.

Pets, whose accidents a robot should steer around.
In a home that is tidied before each run it matters less.

The noise in decibels, in the setting its source names: makers mostly give the standard setting, shops often the highest. 65 dB is like a vacuum at half power, 55 dB like a conversation.

Open-plan living spaces where sound carries.
When it runs while nobody is home the figure hardly matters.

What to expect from the iRobot Roomba Plus 515 Combo
The iRobot Roomba Plus 515 Combo is the cheaper compact Roomba: the same 46 percent smaller design at 83.5 millimetres tall, 22,000 Pa of suction, anti-tangle brushes, two spinning DualClean mop pads at 180 rpm of which one extends along edges, an extending side brush for corners, pads that lift 10.5 millimetres on carpet, ClearView lidar and thresholds up to 3.5 centimetres. The station empties the bin, washes the pads in 75-degree water and dries with 45-degree air. The quoted run time is 295 minutes, good for 185 square metres.
For a small or crowded home the size is the argument, and the long run time also suits a large home in one run. The extending side brush and mop arm are features that gave the tested Dreame models cleaner edges.
The caveats: our specifications list no camera-based obstacle recognition, so cables and socks must come off the floor, the station doses no detergent and there is no water connection. None of our test sources has measured the 515, and the Plus 405 that Vacuum Wars did test drew criticism for a buggy app and a mop that was too wet. Also compare it with the 575, which adds the camera for a little more.

The side brush swings out in a corner or along a kickboard, so the dust there is swept in too. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

Carpet detection
When it matters
Rugs and carpets, where the robot should raise its suction.
Mopping in a home with rugs, which have to stay dry.
The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.
detects carpet and boosts suction
Suitable for pet hair
When it matters
Dogs and cats that shed.
Long-haired pets, whose hair wraps around a brush.
Without pets, ordinary hair and dust need nothing special.

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.

Mopping5 facts
Mop type
When it matters
Homes with a lot of hard floor that you want mopped, not just wiped.
Dried-on dirt in a kitchen, which spinning pads or a roller scrub off better than a dragged cloth.
If you only vacuum, the mop’s build decides nothing.
The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Mop refreshed while mopping
When it matters
Large hard floors, where a mop that is never rinsed spreads dirt around.
Kitchens with sticky spills.
In a small home the mop does not get dirty enough in one run for it to matter.
The robot returns to the dock during a run to rinse the mop, instead of pushing dirty water around. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

Empties the dust bin
When it matters
Pets, sand or a large home, which fill the bin every run.
Dust allergy, since you rarely touch the dust yourself.
In a small home with little dust, emptying the bin by hand takes a moment.
The dock collects dust in a bin instead of a disposable bag. No bags to buy, but you empty it yourself. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

When it matters
A robot with a dock full of pumps and moving parts, where more can break.
An expensive robot you plan to keep for years.
For a cheap robot you would replace rather than repair, the extra years count for less.
Whether the robot works with Home Assistant, the home automation software you run yourself. Official means the integration comes with Home Assistant itself, community that volunteers maintain it.
