How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.
When it matters
Cables, socks and toys left on the floor.
Pets, whose accidents a robot should steer around.
In a home that is tidied before each run it matters less.

The Roborock QR 598 is an entry model with a washing station: 8,000 Pa of suction, two spinning mop pads that lift a centimetre on carpet, lidar navigation and a station that empties the bin, washes and dries the pads, refills the water tank and collects the dirty water. The robot is 96.5 millimetres tall and 64 decibels is quoted.
For the price you get the full maintenance package: no emptying yourself, no rinsing the pads yourself, with the reliable lidar navigation Roborock also uses in its pricier models.
The limits are those of the entry class: 8,000 Pa is low next to the Qrevo models, there is no anti-tangle brush, nothing extends, the station washes without hot water and dries without hot air, obstacle recognition is absent and thresholds stop at two centimetres. None of our test sources has measured this model. Compare it with the Qrevo 5AE and the Qrevo S5V, which Vacuum Wars did measure and which offer clearly more suction for a little more money.
Based on the maker's specifications and our price data; none of our test sources has tested this model.
Roborock QR 598 specifications
The numbers that matter first, then every fact by group. As published by the maker or the shop we read it from.
The side brush swings out in a corner or along a kickboard, so the dust there is swept in too. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

Suitable for pet hair
When it matters
Dogs and cats that shed.
Long-haired pets, whose hair wraps around a brush.
Without pets, ordinary hair and dust need nothing special.

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.

Mopping5 facts
Mop type
When it matters
Homes with a lot of hard floor that you want mopped, not just wiped.
Dried-on dirt in a kitchen, which spinning pads or a roller scrub off better than a dragged cloth.
If you only vacuum, the mop’s build decides nothing.
The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

Water tank in the robot
When it matters
Large hard floors mopped in one go.
A robot whose dock does not refill it during a run.
With a dock that refills the robot during the run, the tank’s size hardly matters.

Warranty
When it matters
A robot with a dock full of pumps and moving parts, where more can break.
An expensive robot you plan to keep for years.
For a cheap robot you would replace rather than repair, the extra years count for less.
Whether the robot works with Home Assistant, the home automation software you run yourself. Official means the integration comes with Home Assistant itself, community that volunteers maintain it.
Frequently asked questions about the Roborock QR 598
1
Does the Roborock QR 598 empty its own dust bin?
Yes. The station empties the robot’s dust bin after every run. The station takes a 2.7 l dust bag.
2
Does the Roborock QR 598 wash and dry its own mop?
Yes. The station washes the mop itself, with cold water. It then dries the mop.
3
Does the Roborock QR 598 work with Alexa, Google Home or Siri?
It works with Google Assistant. Home Assistant has an official integration for this model.
4
How high a threshold can the Roborock QR 598 climb?
Thresholds up to 20 mm, the maker says. It has no climbing system for higher thresholds. Measure your own thresholds: the ones to a bathroom or balcony are often higher.
5
Does the Roborock QR 598 fit under low furniture?
The robot is 9.7 cm tall, so it fits under furniture with at least 10 cm of clearance.
6
Is the Roborock QR 598 suitable for pet hair?
Yes, the maker says. The brush guides hair to the side instead of winding it round the roller.
