What testers say about the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic
The Roborock Saros 20 Sonic is the top of the Saros line with a vibrating mop pad instead of spinning pads, a retractable lidar that keeps the robot under eight centimetres tall, and a lifting chassis for high thresholds. The station washes the mop in boiling-hot water, dries with hot air and doses detergent. Vacuum Wars ranks it 12th of 20 and calls it strong in almost everything except mopping.
In the tests it lifted 92 percent of the sand embedded in carpet, the fourth-highest score Vacuum Wars has ever measured, and after the long-hair test nothing was wrapped around the split main brush or the extending side brush. The chassis cleared a single 57 mm threshold, the same as the standard Saros 20 and the best result to date. Obstacle recognition avoided 19 of 24 objects, better than the Saros 20, and the battery lasted longer than average. The app offers live video, pet finding and Matter.
The big drawback is the mop: dried stains and combined vacuuming and mopping scored well below average, on one of the most expensive robots around. Pet hair pickup reached 78 percent, less than the competition, and the onboard bin is small. If you have a lot of carpet and mostly vacuum, this is one of the best robots you can buy; if you want stains mopped away, the standard Saros 20 is the better choice.

Carpet detection
When it matters
Rugs and carpets, where the robot should raise its suction.
Mopping in a home with rugs, which have to stay dry.
The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.

When it matters
Dogs and cats that shed.
Long-haired pets, whose hair wraps around a brush.
Without pets, ordinary hair and dust need nothing special.

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.

Dirt detection
When it matters
Entrances and kitchens, where dirt gathers in one place.
Pets that leave hair in a favourite spot.
If dirt is spread evenly, a normal pass cleans it just as well.
The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

Water tank in the robot
When it matters
Large hard floors mopped in one go.
A robot whose dock does not refill it during a run.
With a dock that refills the robot during the run, the tank’s size hardly matters.
The dock collects dust in a bin instead of a disposable bag. No bags to buy, but you empty it yourself. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

Frequently asked questions about the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic
1
Does the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic empty its own dust bin?
Yes. The station empties the robot’s dust bin after every run. The 2.7 l dust bag in the station lasts up to 65 days, the maker says.
2
Does the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic wash and dry its own mop?
Yes. The station washes the mop itself, with water at 100 °C. It then dries the mop with warm air.
3
Does the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic work with Alexa, Google Home or Siri?
It works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. It also supports Matter, so it fits into another brand’s app. Home Assistant has an official integration for this model.
4
How high a threshold can the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic climb?
Thresholds up to 45 mm, the maker says. With its climbing system it also takes two steps close together, up to 88 mm in all. Measure your own thresholds: the ones to a bathroom or balcony are often higher.
5
Does the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic fit under low furniture?
The robot is 8 cm tall, so it fits under furniture with at least 8 cm of clearance. Its lidar turret retracts where space is tight.
6
Is the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic suitable for pet hair?
Yes, the maker says. The brush guides hair to the side instead of winding it round the roller.
