What testers say about the Roborock Saros 10R

For anyone wanting a low robot that dodges nearly everything on the floor and looks after itself, without needing the latest suction figures, this is one of the most complete robots around, and often discounted since the Saros 20 arrived.

The Roborock Saros 10R is a flagship with an embedded lidar and no turret, keeping it under 3.1 inches, two spinning mop pads of which one extends and which the robot can leave behind in the station, an extending anti-tangle side brush, and a station that washes in 176 °F water, dries with hot air and doses detergent. RTINGS names it the best robot vacuum overall; Vacuum Wars called it the best it had seen when it appeared.

Vacuum Wars measured a perfect 24 of 24 obstacles avoided, including the smallest objects most rivals miss, thanks to a camera with object recognition, a vertical light beam and a rear sensor. Nothing was wrapped around the split main brush after the long-hair test, pressed-in pet hair was picked up at 92 percent against an 80 average, and 80 percent of the embedded sand came out of the carpet. The pads lift on carpet and, for the first time on a Roborock, can stay in the station automatically, after which the robot collects them for the mopping run.

The reservations are small: the carpet score is good rather than the very best, the quoted 22,000 Pa of suction sits below the newer Saros 20, and the station is large.

What the tests like and dislike about the Roborock Saros 10R

Pros

  • Lines itself up and lifts over room thresholds on its own Tom's Guide ↗
  • Picked up nearly all pet hair and litter on both carpet and hardwood Tom's Guide ↗
  • Slim enough to clean under a fridge lip and a radiator cover Tom's Guide ↗
  • No raised sensor on top, so it slips under very low furniture TechRadar ↗
  • Remarkably quiet even on its strongest suction setting TechRadar ↗
  • Split roller stayed free of pet hair tangles throughout testing TechRadar ↗
  • Avoided every object in testing, even very small ones other robots miss Vacuum Wars ↗
  • No hair wrapped on the brush and strong pet hair pickup on carpet Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Cleans a larger area per charge than most robots Vacuum Wars ↗

Cons

  • Emptying into the dock is briefly as noisy as an upright vacuum Tom's Guide ↗
  • Rug tassels sometimes get caught, with loud whirring before it frees itself Tom's Guide ↗
  • Its price puts it among the costliest robots around Tom's Guide ↗
  • Gave up on a raised threshold that the Qrevo Curv climbed easily TechRadar ↗
  • The dock once clogged when emptying a bin packed with matted hair TechRadar ↗
  • Very expensive, with cheaper robots cleaning nearly as well TechRadar ↗
  • Without a top laser sensor its routes are slightly less efficient Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Small onboard dustbin may need extra trips to the dock with pets Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Failed to clear the tallest single thresholds Roborock claims it can handle Vacuum Wars ↗

Where the testers disagree

  • Thresholds: Tom's Guide: Lines itself up and lifts over room thresholds on its own against TechRadar: Gave up on a raised threshold that the Qrevo Curv climbed easily · Vacuum Wars: Failed to clear the tallest single thresholds Roborock claims it can handle
  • Noise: TechRadar: Remarkably quiet even on its strongest suction setting against Tom's Guide: Emptying into the dock is briefly as noisy as an upright vacuum

Suction and brushes 6 facts
Suction power

Suction in pascal, as the maker measures it. More pascal helps on carpet, but it says little about how well the robot picks grit off a hard floor.

19,000 Pa
Anti-tangle brush

A brush that guides hair to the side instead of letting it wind around the shaft. It saves the cutting work in homes with long hair or pets.

yes
Extending side brush

The side brush swings out in a corner or along a baseboard, so the dust there is swept in too. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

yes
Carpet detection

The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.

detects carpet
Suitable for pet hair

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.

yes
Dirt detection

A sensor notices where more dirt lies, at the doormat for example, and the robot cleans that patch longer or a second time.

yes
Mopping 5 facts
Mop type

How the mop is built: flat pads, two spinning discs or a roller. Discs press harder on dried-on dirt, a roller rinses itself while it works.

spinning pads
Mop lift on carpet

How far the robot lifts the mop when it drives onto a carpet. From about 0.4 in (10 mm) a medium pile stays dry.

0.9 in (22 mm)
Mop extends to the edges

The pad slides out along a wall or a baseboard, so the last few inches are mopped as well.

yes
Automatic mop detach

The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet.

yes
Water tank in the robot

How much clean water the robot carries. It sets how long it mops before a refill, which a dock does by itself.

69 ml
Dock 12 facts
Empties the dust bin

The dock empties the robot’s dust bin, usually after every run. You only empty the dock’s bag or bin. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

yes
Bagless

The dock collects dust in a bin instead of a disposable bag. No bags to buy, but you empty it yourself. On this model: the maker names this feature nowhere on the product page, so we take it as no.

no
Dust bag capacity

How much the dust bag in the dock holds.

2.5 l
Dust bag lasts

How long the maker says a dust bag lasts with daily use. With pets or a lot of carpet it is shorter.

up to 70 days
Washes the mop

The dock washes the mop for you, so you do not rinse it by hand.

yes
Wash temperature

How hot the dock washes the mop. Above 140 °F (60 °C) grease comes off, which is what keeps a mop from smelling. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

176 °F (80 °C)
Dries the mop

The dock dries the mop afterwards, so it does not sit there wet and start to smell. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

yes
Hot-air drying

Drying is done with warm air instead of cold. It is faster and it helps against smell.

yes
Dispenses detergent

The dock mixes detergent into the water itself, from its own bottle. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

yes
Plumbing hookup

The dock can be connected to the tap and the drain, so you never fill or empty a tank. It does need a connection nearby. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

yes
Clean water tank

The clean water tank in the dock, which wets the mop.

4 l
Dock size (w × d × h)

The width, depth and height of the dock. Measure the spot you have in mind, and leave room for the lid and for the robot driving in.

15 × 18.7 × 19.2 in (38.1 × 47.5 × 48.8 cm)
Navigation and obstacles 7 facts
Navigation

How the robot maps your home and follows that map. Lidar measures with a laser and works in the dark, a camera looks along and recognizes more.

retractable LiDAR
Obstacle avoidance

How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.

AI camera
Climbs thresholds up to

The highest threshold the robot takes, as the maker states it. Measure your own: the step into a bathroom or onto a balcony is often higher.

1.6 in (40 mm)
Double threshold (two steps together)

Two steps close together, such as a threshold with a sliding-door track behind it: their combined height, as the maker measures it. Each brand measures with a different gap between the steps, so compare this figure across brands with care. For a single step, the threshold above applies.

1.6 in (40 mm)
Climbing system for high thresholds

An extending leg or wheel that carries the robot over a high threshold. Without one it usually stops at about 0.8 in (2 cm). On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

yes
No-go zones

How you keep the robot out of a place: a zone you draw in the app, a virtual wall or a magnetic strip on the floor.

zones in the app
Camera on board

Whether the robot has a camera, and what for: to recognize obstacles, or also to show you a live picture of your home in the app.

obstacle camera
Robot 5 facts
Robot height

How tall the robot is. It decides whether it fits under your sofa, bed or cabinet.

3.1 in (8 cm)
Robot diameter

How wide the robot is. Narrower gets between chair legs more easily, wider usually means a bigger dust bin.

13.9 in (35.3 cm)
Robot weight

What the robot weighs. It counts most if you carry it up a staircase every day.

9 lb (4.1 kg)
Dust bin in the robot

How much dust the robot holds before you empty it. It matters less with a self-emptying dock, which empties the bin after every run.

270 ml
Noise

The noise in decibels, in the setting its source names: makers mostly give the standard setting, stores often the highest. 65 dB is like a vacuum at half power, 55 dB like a conversation. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

55 dB
Battery 2 facts
Battery capacity

The capacity of the battery. It hints at the runtime, but how much the robot draws counts just as much.

6,400 mAh
Runtime per charge

How long the robot cleans on one charge, at its quietest setting. After that it recharges and carries on where it stopped.

180 min
Smart features and warranty 4 facts
Matter

Matter is the standard that lets devices from different makers work together. With it you can run the robot outside the maker’s own app. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

yes
Voice assistants

Which voice assistants the robot works with, such as Google Assistant or Alexa. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri
