What testers say about the Dreame D30 Ultra

The Dreame D30 Ultra is the most complete model in Dreame's entry-level line: two spinning mop pads of which one extends, lidar navigation, obstacle recognition with 3D structured light, and a station that empties the bin into a 3.2-litre bag and washes and dries the pads. Vacuum Wars bought it as a feature-packed bargain and concludes that it falls short on a few points.

What went well: vacuuming. Fine to coarse debris was swept from hard floors and carpet without scattering, 84 percent of the embedded sand came out of the carpet against a 78 average, and it also beat the average in crevices. Navigation was efficient: the test studio was vacuumed and mopped in 41 minutes where the average is 56, and the 5,200 mAh battery delivered roughly a quarter more area per percent of charge than average, which suits larger homes. The included anti-tangle brush, for the record, scored merely average.

The criticism: dodging small objects did not go well, the station dries the pads with room-temperature air rather than hot air and washes them without warm water, the side brush does not extend and thresholds stop at two centimetres. Vacuum Wars compares it with the similarly priced Eufy Omni C28, which scored better on carpet and on speed. For a large home with mostly hard floors and little clutter it is a decent entry model; for better mopping or obstacle recognition, look one class up.

What the tests like and dislike about the Dreame D30 Ultra

Pros

  • Picks up big crumbs and fine grit alike, on hard floors and carpet Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Efficient routes and battery make it suited to larger homes Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Gets more buried sand out of carpet than the average robot Vacuum Wars ↗

Cons

  • Avoided only a few test objects, so clear cables and clutter first Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Struggles with dried-on stains, better for light touch-up mopping Vacuum Wars ↗
  • Leaves a fair amount of flattened pet hair behind on carpet Vacuum Wars ↗

Each point sums up, in our words, the review of the test it names, and its link leads to that review. We do not summarise RTINGS or Wirecutter: their lists are linked above.

Dreame D30 Ultra specifications

The numbers that matter first, then every fact by group. As published by the maker or the shop we read it from.

Consumables: a 3.2 l dust bag in the station, which lasts up to 100 days.

Dimensionsrobot and dock

Dock, from the front 59 cm high 34 cm deep 59 cm 45.7 cm wide Robot, from the side 35 cm across 9.7 cm

From the published dimensions. The robot passes under furniture with 10 cm of clearance or more. The dock needs a spot 46 cm wide and 34 cm deep.

Suction and brushes 5 facts
Suction power

Suction in pascal, as the maker measures it. More pascal helps on carpet, but it says little about how well the robot picks grit off a hard floor.

25,000 Pa
Anti-tangle brush

A brush that guides hair to the side instead of letting it wind around the shaft. It saves the cutting work in homes with long hair or pets.

yes
Extending side brush

The side brush swings out in a corner or along a kickboard, so the dust there is swept in too. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

no (assumed)
Carpet detection

The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.

detects carpet and boosts suction
Suitable for pet hair

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.

yes
Mopping 5 facts
Mop type

How the mop is built: flat pads, two spinning discs or a roller. Discs press harder on dried-on dirt, a roller rinses itself while it works. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

spinning pads
Mop lift on carpet

How far the robot lifts the mop when it drives onto a carpet. From about 10 mm a medium pile stays dry.

10.5 mm
Mop extends to the edges

The pad slides out along a wall or a kickboard, so the last few centimetres are mopped as well.

yes
Automatic mop detach

The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

no (assumed)
Mop refreshed while mopping

The robot returns to the dock during a run to rinse the mop, instead of pushing dirty water around. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

no (assumed)
Dock 12 facts
Empties the dust bin

The dock empties the robot’s dust bin, usually after every run. You only empty the dock’s bag or bin. On this model: the bag sits in the station.

yes
Bagless

The dock collects dust in a bin instead of a disposable bag. No bags to buy, but you empty it yourself.

no
Dust bag capacity

How much the dust bag in the dock holds.

3.2 l
Dust bag lasts

How long the maker says a dust bag lasts with daily use. With pets or a lot of carpet it is shorter. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

up to 100 days
Washes the mop

The dock washes the mop for you, so you do not rinse it by hand.

yes
Dries the mop

The dock dries the mop afterwards, so it does not sit there wet and start to smell.

yes
Hot-air drying

Drying is done with warm air instead of cold. It is faster and it helps against smell.

yes
Dispenses detergent

The dock mixes detergent into the water itself, from its own bottle.

no
Plumbing hookup

The dock can be connected to the tap and the drain, so you never fill or empty a tank. It does need a connection nearby.

no
Clean water tank

The clean water tank in the dock, which wets the mop.

4.5 l
Dirty water tank

The tank that catches the dirty water from the mop. You empty this one yourself.

4 l
Dock size (w × d × h)

The width, depth and height of the dock. Measure the spot you have in mind, and leave room for the lid and for the robot driving in.

45.7 × 34 × 59 cm
Navigation and obstacles 7 facts
Navigation

How the robot maps your home and follows that map. Lidar measures with a laser and works in the dark, a camera looks along and recognises more. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

LiDAR turret
Obstacle avoidance

How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.

3D sensor (structured light)
Climbs thresholds up to

The highest threshold the robot takes, as the maker states it. Measure your own: the step into a bathroom or onto a balcony is often higher.

20 mm
Climbing system for high thresholds

An extending leg or wheel that carries the robot over a high threshold. Without one it usually stops at about 2 cm. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

no (assumed)
Multi-floor maps

How many floor plans the robot keeps. With more than one it knows which floor it is on when you carry it up or down the stairs.

4
No-go zones

How you keep the robot out of a place: a zone you draw in the app, a virtual wall or a magnetic strip on the floor.

zones in the app
Stair-edge sensors

Sensors under the robot that see a drop, so it stops at the top of a staircase instead of falling down it.

yes
Robot 5 facts
Robot height

How tall the robot is. It decides whether it fits under your sofa, bed or cabinet.

9.7 cm
Robot diameter

How wide the robot is. Narrower gets between chair legs more easily, wider usually means a bigger dust bin.

35 cm
Robot weight

What the robot weighs. It counts most if you carry it up a staircase every day.

3.91 kg
Dust bin in the robot

How much dust the robot holds before you empty it. It matters less with an auto-empty dock, which empties the bin after every run.

300 ml
Noise

The noise in decibels, in the setting its source names: makers mostly give the standard setting, shops often the highest. 65 dB is like a vacuum at half power, 55 dB like a conversation. On this model: maximum noise level according to Coolblue.

76 dB
Battery 3 facts
Battery capacity

The capacity of the battery. It hints at the runtime, but how much the robot draws counts just as much.

5,200 mAh
Runtime per charge

How long the robot cleans on one charge, at its quietest setting. After that it recharges and carries on where it stopped. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

230 min
Charging time

How long an empty battery takes to charge fully in the dock.

4 h
Smart features and warranty 4 facts
Matter

Matter is the standard that lets devices from different makers work together. With it you can run the robot outside the maker’s own app. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

no (assumed)
Voice assistants

Which voice assistants the robot works with, such as Google Assistant or Alexa. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

Alexa, Siri
Warranty

The warranty the maker gives in Germany. Consumer law here stands apart from it and can last longer.

2 years
Scheduled runs

You set days and times, and the robot starts by itself, also when you are not at home.
