Score out of 10: 60% lab tests, 25% owners’ ratings at the shops that deliver to Germany, 15% the maker’s facts. Price does not count. Only models a lab has tested are ranked, and only models sold in Germany count. Method. Models no lab has tested yet, so they are not in our ranking. We do track their prices.
Lowest price at every shop that delivers to Germany, VAT and delivery included. * = delivery cost and VAT estimated for a foreign shop.

How we rank
The same rules for every brand, every day. No brand or shop can pay its way up.
A robot enters the ranking only after a cleaning test. 101 have been tested so far.
A discount can’t lift a model. The price sits beside the score, checked every morning at 6 shops.
60% of the score is measured cleaning: carpet, pet hair, mopping, obstacles and navigation.
25% comes from owners’ star ratings at the shops that deliver to you, 15% from the facts the maker states.
The fewer tests behind a result, the more we pull it toward the average of its station type, so one lucky run can’t top the list.
The picks of RTINGS, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, Vacuum Wars and Wirecutter sit next to our score, so you can see where they agree.
The number one on the main list of each test we follow, and where that model stands in our ranking. Their picks are shown beside our score and do not count in it.

The main list is a test’s overall top list, not its lists for a budget, pets or carpet, which we show too. The date is the day we last read the list.

It saves maintenance: the station empties the bin, washes the mop and dries it, often for weeks without you touching anything. You pay for that in money and in floor space, because such a station is large. With mostly hard floors and little room, an auto-empty station is enough.

Every day, at every shop we follow. We read the prices from the shops’ own product feeds and web shops. We check them for errors and keep them, so every product page shows what a price did over the last 90 days. We only call a discount real when the price also sits below the level of the preceding 30 days. We link to Amazon too, but show no Amazon price until we read it through Amazon’s own API. Until then the price is on Amazon itself. Per shop: how and how often
Pascal is the pressure the robot can build, as the maker measures it. More pascal helps on carpet, but it says little about how well the robot lifts grit off a hard floor: the brush, the airflow and the route matter more there. That is why we lean on lab tests rather than on the number alone.
It drives through the house by itself and sweeps dirt with spinning brushes towards a suction inlet, which pulls it into a bin inside the robot. With a laser (LiDAR) or a camera it maps your home, so it works in lanes and knows where it has been. Sensors keep it off the stairs and steer it around obstacles. When the run is done or the battery runs low, it drives back to its station to charge. A station can also empty the bin and, as an all-in-one station, wash the mop.
Years, if you look after it. Brushes, filters and mop pads wear and are replaced now and then, and the battery holds less charge over time and can be replaced on many models. How long exactly differs by model and by use. So when buying, look at the warranty too, and at whether parts and a new battery are sold separately. When the maker states a warranty, it is listed with the model’s specifications.

The lab part of our score comes from the measured tests of Just A Dad Approved and Vacuum Wars.
Beside each model we also show where these testers place it in their own lists, without counting it in the score:
