How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.
When it matters
Cables, socks and toys left on the floor.
Pets, whose accidents a robot should steer around.
In a home that is tidied before each run it matters less.

For anyone who wants a roller mop with a full station from a brand that promises updates for a long time, it is a sound choice on paper to set beside tested roller models.
The Kärcher RVF 7 Comfort is a robot with a roller mop and an all-in-one station: the station empties the bin into a 4-litre bag, washes the roller and dries it with hot air, with a 3-litre clean-water tank and a 2.4-litre dirty-water tank.
The robot pulls 13,000 Pa of suction, has an anti-tangle brush, navigates with lidar and recognises obstacles with an AI camera, which also lets you look around the home remotely. It has dirt detection, a 300 ml water tank, a 250 ml dust bin and a 5,200 mAh battery rated for 150 minutes. Kärcher promises security updates until 2032.
It is 105 millimetres tall, Kärcher states 67 dB, and our specifications list no detergent dosing and no roller that reaches out along edges. We have no test of the RVF 7 Comfort from our test sources, so this text rests on Kärcher's figures.
Based on the maker's specifications and our price data; none of our test sources has tested this model.
Kärcher RVF 7 Comfort specifications
The numbers that matter first, then every fact by group. As published by the maker or the shop we read it from.
The side brush swings out in a corner or along a kickboard, so the dust there is swept in too. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Dirt detection
When it matters
Entrances and kitchens, where dirt gathers in one place.
Pets that leave hair in a favourite spot.
If dirt is spread evenly, a normal pass cleans it just as well.
The pad slides out along a wall or a kickboard, so the last few centimetres are mopped as well. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Water tank in the robot
When it matters
Large hard floors mopped in one go.
A robot whose dock does not refill it during a run.
With a dock that refills the robot during the run, the tank’s size hardly matters.
The dock mixes detergent into the water itself, from its own bottle. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Plumbing hookup
When it matters
Mopping every day, without filling and emptying tanks.
A spot near a tap and a drain, such as a utility room or under a kitchen counter.
If the dock stands far from any plumbing, it is no use.
The dock can be connected to the tap and the drain, so you never fill or empty a tank. It does need a connection nearby. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Clean water tank
When it matters
Large hard floors mopped every day.
Being away for days while the robot keeps mopping.
With a dock connected to the tap the tank is filled for you.
How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.
An extending leg or wheel that carries the robot over a high threshold. Without one it usually stops at about 2 cm. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Camera on board
When it matters
Privacy, if you would rather not have a camera driving through your home.
Small things on the floor, which a camera sees better than lidar alone.
If the floor is tidied before each run, a camera adds little.
