How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact.
When it matters
Cables, socks and toys left on the floor.
Pets, whose accidents a robot should steer around.
In a home that is tidied before each run it matters less.

What testers say about the Ecovacs Deebot T80S Omni
For anyone wanting strong suction, a real roller mop and a bagless station without flagship money, it is one of this year's best buys.
The Ecovacs Deebot T80S Omni is a mid-range robot with a roller mop that rinses itself while it works, an embedded lidar without a turret, obstacle recognition with a camera and structured light, and a bagless station that washes the roller in 75-degree water, dries it with air of over 60 degrees and collects the dust in a removable bin. Vacuum Wars names it the best budget robot and ranks it 8th of 20, noting that it impressed in almost every test.
Bench suction was two and a half times the average and higher than the pricier T90 Pro Omni's; 91 percent of the embedded sand came out of the carpet, again more than the T90. Pressed-in pet hair was picked up completely and nothing was wrapped around the brush after the long-hair test. The roller scored high on dried stains and left little water behind, lifts 15 millimetres on carpet and extends along edges. It avoided 21 of 24 obstacles, and the battery was frugal.
The main weakness is navigation: the route was less efficient than average, so runs take longer and the estimated area per charge sits slightly below average, and users reported occasional map problems. The side brush does not extend, thresholds stop at about 2.5 centimetres and the station does not dose detergent.

Ecovacs Deebot T80S Omni specifications
The numbers that matter first, then every fact by group. As published by the maker or the shop we read it from.
The side brush swings out in a corner or along a kickboard, so the dust there is swept in too. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.

Carpet detection
When it matters
Rugs and carpets, where the robot should raise its suction.
Mopping in a home with rugs, which have to stay dry.
The robot notices when it drives onto a carpet. Most then raise their suction, and a mopping robot lifts its mop or leaves it at the dock.
detects carpet
Suitable for pet hair
When it matters
Dogs and cats that shed.
Long-haired pets, whose hair wraps around a brush.
Without pets, ordinary hair and dust need nothing special.

Whether the robot copes with pet hair: a brush that hair does not wind around and a dock that empties the bin for you. Where the maker does not say so itself, we read it from those two.
yes
Mopping6 facts
Mop type
When it matters
Homes with a lot of hard floor that you want mopped, not just wiped.
Dried-on dirt in a kitchen, which spinning pads or a roller scrub off better than a dragged cloth.
If you only vacuum, the mop’s build decides nothing.
How the mop is built: flat pads, two spinning discs or a roller. Discs press harder on dried-on dirt, a roller rinses itself while it works. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
The robot leaves the mop at the dock before it vacuums a carpet, so the carpet never gets wet. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Mop refreshed while mopping
When it matters
Large hard floors, where a mop that is never rinsed spreads dirt around.
Kitchens with sticky spills.
In a small home the mop does not get dirty enough in one run for it to matter.
The robot returns to the dock during a run to rinse the mop, instead of pushing dirty water around. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

Water tank in the robot
When it matters
Large hard floors mopped in one go.
A robot whose dock does not refill it during a run.
With a dock that refills the robot during the run, the tank’s size hardly matters.
How long the maker says a dust bag lasts with daily use. With pets or a lot of carpet it is shorter. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.

Washes the mop
297 of the 378 models we track have this.
When it matters
Mopping several times a week, when rinsing pads by hand gets tiresome.
Kitchens and hallways, where a mop picks up a lot of dirt.
If you rarely mop, washing the pads by hand is little work.
How the robot sees loose things on the floor, such as cables, socks or a pet accident. A camera with depth sensing sees more than a bumper that reacts on contact. On this model: from the maker's product text, not from a specification table.
An extending leg or wheel that carries the robot over a high threshold. Without one it usually stops at about 2 cm. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
no (assumed)
Camera on board
When it matters
Privacy, if you would rather not have a camera driving through your home.
Small things on the floor, which a camera sees better than lidar alone.
If the floor is tidied before each run, a camera adds little.

Whether the robot has a camera, and what for: to recognise obstacles, or also to show you a live picture of your home in the app.

When it matters
Homes with stairs or a step down into a room.
A landing or a split-level floor.
In a home on one level with no drops it has nothing to guard.

Matter is the standard that lets devices from different makers work together. With it you can run the robot outside the maker’s own app. On this model: Assumed, not a stated fact: the maker's full specification does not name it, so we take it as no.
