How we rank
Six rules every robot is ranked by
The same rules for every brand, every day. No brand or store can pay its way up.
Tested, or not ranked
A robot enters the ranking only after a cleaning test. 173 have been tested so far.
Price never counts
A discount can’t lift a model. The price sits beside the score, checked every morning at 6 stores.
Cleaning weighs most
60% of the score is measured cleaning: carpet, pet hair, mopping, obstacles and navigation.
Owners and makers have a say
25% comes from owners’ star ratings at the stores that ship to you, 15% from the facts the maker states.
Thin evidence counts less
The fewer tests behind a result, the more we pull it toward the average of its station type, so one lucky run can’t top the list.
Reviewers shown, not blended
The picks of RTINGS, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, Vacuum Wars, and Wirecutter sit next to our score, so you can see where they agree.
5 tests, 5 different winners
The number one on the main list of each test we follow, and where that model stands in our ranking. Their picks are shown beside our score and do not count in it.
| Test | Their number one | With us |

Frequently asked questions
What does a good robot vacuum cost in the United States?
The models in our ranking run from about $179 to $1,799 today. A robot with a self-emptying station costs from $249 today, one with an all-in-one station that also washes the mop from $359. We show the lowest verified price of the day per model, shipping included, before sales tax.
Are robot vacuums banned in the US?
No robot vacuum you can buy today is banned. On July 28, 2026 the FCC added foreign-produced “advanced robotic devices”, mobile robots, to its Covered List (Public Notice DA 26-786). Its fact sheet says this does not affect devices people already own, and does not stop stores from selling or importing models the FCC authorized before. What it stops is a new foreign-made model getting FCC authorization without a Conditional Approval from the Department of War. A waiver (DA 26-789) keeps software and firmware updates coming for authorized devices until at least January 1, 2029. The FCC told CNET and PCMag the listing covers robot vacuums. We read the FCC’s documents on September 27, 2026. The FCC’s public notice (PDF)
Is an all-in-one station worth the money?
It saves maintenance: the station empties the bin, washes the mop and dries it, often for weeks without you touching anything. You pay for that in money and in floor space, because such a station is large. With mostly hard floors and little room, a self-emptying station is enough.
What is the best robot vacuum for pet hair in 2026?
On October 21, 2026 the Roborock Saros 20 comes first: best for pets according to Tom's Guide, and number 18 of 173 in our ranking. Today it costs $1,599 at Roborock (brand store). The Roborock Saros Z70 and the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra follow. The 10 best robot vacuums for pet hair (2026)
What is the best robot vacuum for hardwood floors in 2026?
On October 21, 2026 the Roborock Saros 10R comes first: best for hard floors according to RTINGS, and number 20 of 173 in our ranking. Today it costs $899 at Roborock (brand store). The Roborock Qrevo Curv and the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra follow. The 10 best robot vacuums for hardwood floors (2026)

What is the best robot vacuum for high thresholds in 2026?
On October 21, 2026 the Roborock Saros 20 Flow is the highest-placed robot vacuum for high thresholds in our ranking that you can buy in the United States today, for $1,499 at Roborock (brand store). The Dreame X60 Ultra and the Narwal Freo 20 follow it in our ranking. The 10 best robot vacuums for high thresholds (2026)
What is the best low-profile robot vacuum in 2026?
On October 21, 2026 the Roborock Saros 20 Flow is the highest-placed low-profile robot vacuum in our ranking that you can buy in the United States today, for $1,499 at Roborock (brand store). The Roborock Qrevo Edge 3 Pro and the Roborock Qrevo CurvX follow it in our ranking. The 10 best low-profile robot vacuums for under the couch (2026)
How often do you update the prices?
Every day, at every store we follow. We read the prices from the stores’ own product feeds and web stores. We check them for errors and keep them, so every product page shows what a price did over the last 90 days. We only call a discount real when the price also sits below the level of the preceding 30 days. We link to Amazon too, but show no Amazon price until we read it through Amazon’s own API. Until then the price is on Amazon itself. Per store: how and how often
What does suction in pascal mean?
Pascal is the pressure the robot can build, as the maker measures it. More pascal helps on carpet, but it says little about how well the robot lifts grit off a hard floor: the brush, the airflow and the route matter more there. That is why we lean on lab tests rather than on the number alone.
How does a robot vacuum work?
It drives through the house by itself and sweeps dirt with spinning brushes towards a suction inlet, which pulls it into a bin inside the robot. With a laser (LiDAR) or a camera it maps your home, so it works in lanes and knows where it has been. Sensors keep it off the stairs and steer it around obstacles. When the run is done or the battery runs low, it drives back to its station to charge. A station can also empty the bin and, as an all-in-one station, wash the mop.
How long does a robot vacuum last?
Years, if you look after it. Brushes, filters and mop pads wear and are replaced now and then, and the battery holds less charge over time and can be replaced on many models. How long exactly differs by model and by use. So when buying, look at the warranty too, and at whether parts and a new battery are sold separately. When the maker states a warranty, it is listed with the model’s specifications.
Where we check prices
We read prices every day at most stores, from their product feed or web store. We check them for errors and keep them, so you can see what a price did over the last 90 days. We link to Amazon too, but show no Amazon price until we read it through Amazon’s own API. Until then the price is on Amazon itself.

Whose tests we use
The lab part of our score comes from the measured tests of Just A Dad Approved and Vacuum Wars.
Beside each model we also show where these testers place it in their own lists, without counting it in the score:
How we combine lab tests, owners’ ratings and facts into one score is on the method page.
